And watch out, because sometimes I do "bite" to defend my family!
It was the 3rd Annual "Deaf Day" at the zoo and since the weather was reasonably cool until the late afternoon, it ended up being a really nice way to spend our day. (It also gave John a chance to study at home for a change, given that our house was very quiet for most of the day!)
This was the first zoo visit where Gracie enjoyed herself and really took notice of some of the animals. Preston was very excited about the monkeys (lemurs, actually) and, since he could hear many of the primates throughout most of the small zoo, he spent a lot of time saying, "Ooh, ooh, ahh ahh" and bobbing his head!
Favorites (easiest to see, too) were the zebras and the giraffes. Both kids also liked the small turtle that was near the grass where we sat and had lunch. We topped off the afternoon with a stop for some yummy treats at Freeport Bakery... a perfect way to end any day!
I didn't take as many photos as I would have liked - - and unfortunately, none of Nana, who often manages to get behind the camera instead of in front of it. But here are a few!

These next photos aren't all "zoo" photos - - some were taken at our zoo-like home on Thursday! At the zoo, it was difficult to get clear pics of the chimps grooming each other, as they were behind some very "finger-printed" glass. But, the photos I took on Thursday of Preston trying to suction Gracie and then kiss her reminded me of how the animals today were so lovingly caring for each other. No... I am not comparing my children to chimps... but do look and judge for yourself!!! :-)

What a fun day with your sweeties! (I love the swan sign so much!) I didn't know that Sacramento had a zoo - I'm so happy to hear that Sweet Gracie enjoyed herself! And that Sweet Preston entertained you, inspired by primates!
Oooh, my aunt was telling me about Freeport Bakery - and I still need to find out where my friend got the cupcakes for her wedding - because they were SO good - my aunt had wondered if they were from Freeport.
This sounds like a perfect day - primates and yummies at the bakery with people you love!
Kristi, I just checked out your blog for the first time and am so touched and blessed by it! I'm so thrilled to hear of all of your triumphs, and still teary to know how loving a brother Preston is. You two are truly wonderful parents and inspire me to be better too.
Love,
Buko
Kristi, you are such an amazing mother, wife, advocate, teacher, nurse, PERSON ...I could go on and on. I'm new w/this "leaving comments" thing, but I can't stand to read this blog again and not try to express my amazement and awe of you and your family. This blog is incredible - and so are each of you. Those zoo pictures just melted my heart. (We are game anytime you want company there, too :) I've never noticed that sign before -too perfect! And the pics of the kids ...and seeing Gracie play w/that rose and hear about her school (and that horrific experience w/her pacemaker -my gosh! Good for you to keep on them about it ...I'd expect nothing less from you. Take a picture of the zoo sign with you. Then tell them you have friends who can bite ...hard, too, kay? :) ...and little Preston just everywhere and such a love. And Nana Jewel, even though we can't see her, we see her love in those pics, too. :) Thank you for sharing all of this with us ...I am so honored to be your friend. And sidenote, you are an amazing writer! Look forward to the next update. DOn't know how you fit that in, but we are all blessed for it! :) This is why I probably shouldn't blog comments, huh? Is there a word limit? :) LOVE YOU!

What a wonderful day at the zoo! Glad that Gracie and Preston both enjoyed themselves!

Can you believe it? I finally got a USER NAME and can post on your blog again! I am so excited for you and your family and I am so proud of John. It's too bad we don't live in CA anymore...I'd love to let him pull me over :-). I'll bet he's the only CHP Officer who can write you a ticket and make you crack up laughing at the same time. It is so strange to see pics of Gracie and Preston now - Gracie has really transformed from a toddler to a big kid and Preston...well...what can I say - he's HUGE. I can't believe how fast they grow. We miss you guys. Let us know when you find your new home...and give your mom a hug from me.
