Angels Playground - - a fun day in the "space between"

During the last "space between," I took the kids to Angels Playground in Costa Mesa. Angels Playground is a wonderful, fully accessible park with fabulous equipment, sunshades and ramps all the way up the large jungle gym structure.

Saturday, October 9th, was a beautiful day - - the weather was warm, but not too hot, and it seemed a perfect opportunity to pack a picnic, load the car and make the drive fifteen miles south to check out the park for the first time. We had a fantastic time, so much so that we ended up staying over four hours! The park itself is huge... lots of grass, trees, hills, and water features including a small waterfall and duck pond.

A gentle breeze and abundant shade kept Gracie extra comfortable while she wheeled herself around the playground, checking out each area like an investigator. Preston, once he accepted the fact that she needed to do things at her own pace, found a boy his age (and a six year-old girl, no surprise!) to play with. He ran all around, frequently checking in with his sister, stopping to hang out for a moment or two before taking off again. The set-up was nice, as I could easily stay with Gracie and help her control her chair, while at the same time, see where Preston was. We will definitely be going back!

What a fun playground! I'm glad you guys got some sun and that Gracie is doing better.

Prayers and hugs to your family!

What a great place for Gracie as well as Preston. With all the laws about access, you would think more parks would be/could be/should be built like Angels Park (especially in Orange County). Or in the spirit of inclusion, maybe all new parks should have full access because providing such does not hinder the children who are not challenged. So glad to see pics of the three of you enjoying. Looking forward to spending time with all of you during the next space between.

We liked that playground a lot, except that the swings have no straps. They have places for straps, but you have to bring your own. Emily doesn't know not to fall out on her face so ... boo. :( Perhaps we should meet you there for a picnic sometime IN BETWEEN! :)

What a nice playground! We're supposed to be getting a playground like this here in our community, but they've been raising funding for it for several years now and they still haven't been able to break ground on it yet. I would love to see it ready while Katie is still young enough to enjoy it.

Love all the pics! The one of you, Kristi, with Gracie and Preston, is beautiful! It brought a huge smile to my face. And I love how Miss Gracie is moving around so well in her wheelchair. What independence for her!

Hi Kristi!

What an awesome park! Where is it located? I was sad to read that Gracie had pneumonia again, but she looks so great at the park. You could really tell she was thoroughly enjoying herself. Looked like the perfect mommy and kiddo's day!

Oh my goodness. What a beautiful and wonderful park. Those pictures brought tears to my eyes, Krispy. Not just Preston pushing Gracie in her wheelchair on the jungle gym ...but the ones of you and the children. I miss you ..I miss YOUR face. It's been so long ...I love you so much, and miss you more than I can say right now. How amazing you are to give this blog to us, what a gift for us to "see" you and those precious babies. I can't believe how they've grown. Preston -the one with him and the nectarine...oh my gosh, he looks so big boy! And Miss Gracie in her shakey-shake vest. What a blessing for her to find a treatment that she loves as much as her baths (!!)

I'm sooooo sad and sorry to hear she has a fever again. :( WTH? I'm so sorry. I cannot write a doggoneit big enough. :( Please keep us posted as you can ...as you do ...and know we love you so very much. It feels very much too FAR right now. :(

love
