Foto Friday vol. 8

Despite all of the "it figures" over the last couple of weeks, there are constantly bright moments in each day.
Sometimes you have to make it a point to find them; other times they are right in front of you.
The last couple of weeks in a nutshell:
A very full plate... And my cup runneth over.

Did you know that being able to curl your tongue is an inherited trait?

Look out Doogie Howser!
Last week, Preston showed the new nurse how to take Gracie's vitals and have a good listen in the morning.

On Wednesday when I took Preston to the pediatrician, we patiently played and waited on the sick side. Ortencia, the nurse, called Preston's name, he looked up at her and calmly shook his head, signed and said, "Noooo. Nurse, ouch, nooo." He didn't panic, but he clearly remembered that she was the nurse who gave him his shots just a week before. She cracked up, as did I, and we both assured him, "No ouch today, Preston. No shots, no pokes! We are just saying hello to the doctor and showing him the rash on your tummy."
He accepted that and then we waited in the exam room. The doctor came in and Preston said, "Doctuh, rash, yook (look)" and pulled up his shirt. Soooooo cute!

"Saturday Night Fever"

Sunday Night's Prescription:
Two doses of Tylenol (one for each child)
plus a whole lotta Daddy time
Benefits of this medication: Much happier children
Side effects: Hyper children who ignore bedtime

Miss Gracie... in full "diva mode" following her salon trim and style.
I just love the shot of the two of them together.

I've written a lot lately about how many new experiences Gracie has tolerated. After Monday's dentist appointment (where she was a bonafide, x-ray takin' rockstar as usual!), she surprised me yet again. Unfortunately, I did not have my camera and, for the first time in a while, actually left the house with my cell phone charging on the kitchen counter. Doesn't it just figure?!
Despite still being on the mend and needing meds for fever, I couldn't waste an opportunity (Gracie's nurse was with us) to take Preston for a quick trim. I love his hair longer, but his view was getting to be too much blonde and too little "world," so it was time. I also wanted to trim Gracie's bangs and even out the length a bit, but figured I'd do that at home. The last time Preston got his haircut (in October), Gracie was incredibly stressed out while we waited.
On Monday, though, she was perfectly happy watching Preston get his haircut. He sat in the fire engine, checked himself out in the mirror and watched a little bit of the Elmo video that we picked out. Mostly, though, he just turned to Gracie and said, "GeeGhee, dit" (Gracie, sit) and pointed to the yellow taxi-cab chair next to him. He wanted her to sit and get her haircut, too! I opted to wait until he was done and see if she'd like to sit in the same chair he used. She did. And she couldn't get enough of her cute self in the mirror. The stylist put a drape on her. She didn't fuss a bit (this was a huge shocker)! In fact, if anything, she just settled in that chair even more. She sat perfectly still for a quick spritz, trim and styling with the flowers and all. If I'd had foreseen such success, I'd have had more length cut off and her a-line reshaped, but I wanted it to be as quick and pleasant as possible. She knew she looked good. She couldn't stop smiling. And, she never once tried to take those flowers out the rest of the day!
(Oh... and I mustn't forget the new shoes... aren't they ridiculously cute?! How can a girl not have a great day with shoes like that?!)

Oh my goodness as always the pics are just adorable! I think my favorite of the week (and let me tell you it is very hard to pick a favorite since they are all so good) is the one of Gracie putting her hand on Preston's back to tell him it will be ok. That is such a cute story of Preston with the Dr. The twins and him would get along so well! Her hair is just adorable after the trim and fixing. I know how you feel about too much blonde versus the world. I just loved the twins long hair but they were definitely seeing too much blonde! Preston looks great with his haircut.

I am in happy tears over here after reading and seeing your post. I just adore the story of Gracie and Preston getting their hair cut - what a perfect story to share on the first day of Spring - blooming and blossoming before our very eyes, in such stunningly beautiful ways. Happy Spring, dear friends!

PS They're out of the cutie pie cupcake shoes in Viv's size...but I think I'll just have to buy the next size up and wait til they fit. Seeing them on Gracie's sweet feet makes me need them!
